Sideways Stitch

Sideways stitch

You can use any yarn and hook size combo

What I'm Using:

Hook size: H5
Yarn: Worsted Weight

Abbreviations
Chain (Ch)
Stitch (st)
Single Crochet (Sc)
Double Crochet (Dc)
Repeat (rep)
Skip (sk)
Space (sp)
* Means to repeat from first asterisk to last asterisk until row is finished or directions specify otherwise

The Pattern

Chain any multiple of 4 chain stitches (4,8,12 ect.)

  1. Dc in 4th ch from hook; *sk next 3 chs, work (sc, ch3, 3dc) all in next ch*; when at last 4 chs, sk 3 chs, sc in last ch; ch 3, turn
  2. Dc in first sc; *sk next 3 dc, work (sc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in next ch-3 sp*; sc in top of turning ch; ch 3, turn.
  3. Repeat row 2 for pattern then work final row.
  4. Dc in first sc, ch 1, sc in next ch-3 sp; *ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp*; when at last 2 sts, dc in next sc, dc in top of turning ch.
I added a border of sc around the edges to make this piece a little more square looking and so it would be easier to add to a blanket later on.

Measurements
5 1/2 x 5 1/2 or 4 side squares by 4 side squares
10 rows total, Don't remember how many stitches I started with :)

These posts are meant for teaching purposes and come from "The Big Book of Crochet Stitches" by Jean Leinhauser and Rita Weiss. I got this book for 20$ at a local Michaels and it has over 350 stitches!! A must buy for any beginners out there looking for some fun projects to try. Personally I'm doing sample squares of a bunch of different stitches and then i'll make a blanket of them all. Sort of like a granny square blanket except with different textures and fun patterns to look at!
