Sideways Stitch

Sideways stitch

You can use any yarn and hook size combo

What I'm Using:

Hook size: H5
Yarn: Worsted Weight

Abbreviations
Chain (Ch)
Stitch (st)
Single Crochet (Sc)
Double Crochet (Dc)
Repeat (rep)
Skip (sk)
Space (sp)
* Means to repeat from first asterisk to last asterisk until row is finished or directions specify otherwise

The Pattern

Chain any multiple of 4 chain stitches (4,8,12 ect.)

  1. Dc in 4th ch from hook; *sk next 3 chs, work (sc, ch3, 3dc) all in next ch*; when at last 4 chs, sk 3 chs, sc in last ch; ch 3, turn
  2. Dc in first sc; *sk next 3 dc, work (sc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in next ch-3 sp*; sc in top of turning ch; ch 3, turn.
  3. Repeat row 2 for pattern then work final row.
  4. Dc in first sc, ch 1, sc in next ch-3 sp; *ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp*; when at last 2 sts, dc in next sc, dc in top of turning ch.
I added a border of sc around the edges to make this piece a little more square looking and so it would be easier to add to a blanket later on.

Measurements
5 1/2 x 5 1/2 or 4 side squares by 4 side squares
10 rows total, Don't remember how many stitches I started with :)

These posts are meant for teaching purposes and come from "The Big Book of Crochet Stitches" by Jean Leinhauser and Rita Weiss. I got this book for 20$ at a local Michaels and it has over 350 stitches!! A must buy for any beginners out there looking for some fun projects to try. Personally I'm doing sample squares of a bunch of different stitches and then i'll make a blanket of them all. Sort of like a granny square blanket except with different textures and fun patterns to look at!

Bubbles Stitch

This is a fairly simple stitch to learn and creates a wonderfully textured piece.

You can use any yarn and hook size combo, I've personally found the pattern to come out better with a smaller hook size.

What I'm Using:

Hook size: G 4.25
Yarn: Worsted Weight

Abbreviations
Yarn Over (YO): Bring yarn over hook from back to front
Loop (lp): The loop on your hook
Chain (Ch)
Stitch (st)
Single Crochet (Sc)
Double Crochet (Dc)
Remaining Chain (rem ch)
Repeat (rep)
* Means to repeat from first asterisk to last asterisk until row is finished or directions specify otherwise
Cluster (CL): (YO, insert hook in specified st, YO and draw up a lp to height of a dc, YO and draw through 2 lps on hook) Repeat 5 times, YO and draw through all 6 loops on hook; Cl made

The Pattern
Chain any multiple of 3 chain stitches (3,6,9 ect.) add 2 to end of foundation chain.

  1. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch; ch 1 turn
  2. Sc in 1st sc *CL in next sc, sc in next 2 sc* ch 1 turn
  3. Sc in each st across; ch 1 turn
  4. Sc in first 2 sc, CL in next sc, *sc in next 2 sc, CL in next sc*; sc in last sc; ch 1 turn
  5. Sc in each st across; ch 1 turn
Repeat rows 2-5 for pattern

My final square is a little screwed up somewhere but i'm no perfectionist so I love it as is! The measurements are 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 or 8 by 12 bubbles. This piece took a LOT of yarn, so be sure you have plenty when you start. I did a total of 26 foundation stitches and 25 rows including foundation row.

Sorry the video quality is bad, if you guys need something better quality or more in depth let me know! I'm a beginner too, so you can definitely see i'm not perfect at crochet, but I don't want a perfect take. I want a real take so you guys know that its okay to fumble around too! Sending love and fuzzy yarn.
